Welcome to a new and glorious month of March! During the last Sunday service, Pastor declared March as our month of Faith. She began her sermon by reminding us that faith begins with talking; saying what we want and remaining there, Pastor taught that true strength is refusing to be moved even when everything happening is contrary to what we have spoken, she recalled how when Jesus was informed that Lazarus was sick, he said the sickness was not unto death and yet Lazarus died; when he found out, he didn’t express shock or disappointment, instead he maintained his stand knowing there could be a change and there was a change, from this; we learnt that challenges will come to test our faith but we must not let them push us down, rather we must remain standing and refuse to change our confession knowing that a double minded man will not receive anything from the Lord.

Pastor went on to show us some verses that pointed to Jesus’ way of thinking, in John 8:28, John 8:38 and John 14:10, he exchanged speaking for doing in each instance and those verses show us that he believed in the power of his words to do the things he wanted done, he knew that if he wanted to do anything, all he had to do was say it and this was reflected in how he performed most of his miracles by speaking words. He said in John 6:63 that;

“It is the spirit that quickeneth, the flesh profiteth nothing, the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life”

He knew that his words did something, they quickened and gave life to the dead, he further said;

“He that believeth in me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” John 7:38 and,

“But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14

For anyone who believes his word, it becomes a well of water in them springing unto everlasting life, all the things that are dead inside begin to receive life. Jesus took his words seriously because he was concious that his word made all things including the human body and that if there was ever any dead organ, that same word could give life to it.

We learnt that words are alive and they create circumstances according to what was said, in John 5:21-25, Jesus having never raised anyone from the dead spoke of his ability to give life to and raise the dead just as his Father does, he went on to declare that the time had come for the dead to hear his voice and live, these words created the circumstances that led to him raising up the son of the widow at Nain, Jairus’ daughter and Lazarus with his word. At Lazarus’ grave, he commanded him to come forth and that word moved him out of the grave to where Jesus was even though his hand and foot were completely bound so that he couldn’t walk and his face covered so that he couldn’t see. We also saw how Jesus had said in John 6:35 that whoever comes to him will never hunger or thirst implying that they would leave with satisfaction, these words created the circumstances that ensured that when the woman with the issue of blood touched him with an expectation, she left with satisfaction even though Jesus was not previously aware or concious of her. In similar manner, his words about rising from the dead on the third day created the circumstances for the stone to be rolled away and for his ressurection to take place even when the government did everything they could to stop him.

Pastor charged us to train ourselves to respond with God’s word at all times, to control our own world with our words, to create the circumstances we want to see with our words and to remain there such that irrespective of what others say or do to hinder us, our experiences will be controlled and framed by the words that we have spoken.
