“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:12
There is a spirit of the world that cause men to walk in the way of the world; putting out words that cause men to lust and walk in pride when received; causing men to desire the things of the world more than the things of God, see him here:
“Then Jesus said to Peter, “Get away from me, satan! You are not helping me! You don’t care about the same things God does. You care only about things that people think are important.” Matthew 16:23, ERV
It is satan, he is the spirit of the world and he has one goal- to steal, kill and destroy, John 10:10.
No matter the temporal pleasure people might feel from giving into the lusts and pride he so fosters, the end of such expression is destruction.
Thank God, we have a different spirit, that causes us to learn of Jesus and walk in righteousness:
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” Matthew 11:29
Always give in to his leadership, instead of standing on the side of lust or having a pride look, do what he says: “Let your gentle spirit [your graciousness, unselfishness, mercy, tolerance, and patience] be known to all people. The Lord is near.” Philippians 4:5
