“I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.” John 12 vs 46
Notice a pattern; Jesus said:
“…I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10
And he made clear his purpose again, in the main verse. And the Bible shows:
“…For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” 1 John 3:8
Then he expatiates:
“And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has bidden me.” John 12:50 RSV
Through his words- he made life available; that’s how he did it! That’s how he could ensure others didn’t abide in darkness and he could deliver them from the wickedness of satan; what’s more- that’s how he provided light in the dark place, and what examples we have of this.
No wonder, having made us light, he expects us to speak words and give men the opportunity to receive life (think about it- we make available the salvation of the Lord and the life he gives through the words we speak): preaching the gospel, healing the sick, casting out devils and declaring peace- all through words!
