God told John why he asked him to preach and baptize:
“And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water… And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.” John 1:31-33
From when he was young, almost all his life, he prepared for just one moment, to reveal Jesus, the lamb of God, to the Jews: Luke 1:80
Once he did that, he was a success and he was done with what God would have him do, he knew this and he said:
“He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:30
Jesus told us:
“Therefore, as you go, disciple people in all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit,” Matthew 28:19, ISV
You can’t bribe God with human accomplishments- he made all things and so you better give him exactly what he asked YOU to give him. Make disciples. Do you have disciples? Don’t beat around your answer, if you don’t, what’s stopping you?
