“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
2 Timothy 3:15
Jesus expects you to do what he says:
“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” Luke 6:46
Because trials and troubles would surely come, but your doing the word would leave you unmoved:
“Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.” Luke 6:47-49
When the men were building, there was no storm, it could have seemed unnecessary, a waste of resources and just plain hectic for the man who was building his house on a foundation to continue, whilst the other guy was having it easy and finishing on time. That conclusion could have been reached if there was no possibility of a storm, but when the storm showed up, the difference was clear. Situations would always arise to differentiate those that do the word and those that do not- always:
“Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.” Malachi 3:18
The word of God tells us of an evil day, sure to be faced by every child of God, knowing that day would eventually come, invest your time in the word, dig your foundation deeper on the rock and get ready to stand!
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:13
