“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”
Colossians 3:1

Desire things above. Desire the glory of God. Desire the word of God. He goes on:
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:2
Set your affection, don’t let your affections be everywhere and nowhere. He says do not set your affection on things on the earth. It matters what catches your interest, he says if you find out you have become affectionate about things on the earth, and worse still, more than you are about things above, correct it. Do not act as though you are destined to be that way, you can set your affections right; you are more interested and passionate about the word of God, growing in the knowledge of the lord Jesus Christ than you are about a football, boxing or wrestling match, than you are about a TV show, music concert, popular movie. This is his expectations for you as one who is risen with Christ. Look at this:
“For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:3
So he’s telling you, if you set your affection on earthly things, you are definitely on a vain path because in reality, those things can’t profit you anymore, you are dead to them, your life should not be influenced by earthly things because your life is hid with Christ in God. Only the things of God ought to influence your life and as such only the things of God should get your affection.
What if you would like to desire the word of God more than a sitcom but it seems tough? He says set your affection, meaning you can control it, spend more time with the word of God, vocalize your desire for the word of God often and forsake the sitcom. One things is needful, choose the best part.
