“And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.”
Acts 20:32

The word makes clear that what you see and hear affects your experience in life:
“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” 1 John 1:3
When you and hear what they see and hear, you would have fellowship with them, John says, and goes on to tell us that their fellowship is with the father and son, meaning they only saw and heard of the father and son- they placed a premium on the word of God (1 John 1:1) and you should too.
If you want your experience in life to be an expression of God’s word then it is your responsibility to guard what you see and what you hear:
“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.” Proverbs 4:20-21
Because they enter your heart and affect your life:
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23
Go for the word— only!
