Glory! Glory!! Glory!!!

Sunday service was a glorious time of impact, Pastor began the message by reminding us of the need to be deliberate in our study of God’s word, she encouraged us to move from the layman’s method of studying God’s word scantily to planning our study and effectively studying books of the bible on a regular basis. She reiterated that our faith investment through studying the word is not only for this world but is an eternal investment that would matter even in heaven.

Pastor went on to bring to our understanding the truth that we are not our emotions and there is a difference between us and our emotions. She explained that in accepting that they are no different from their emotions, many open up themselves to demonic oppression. She taught us that our mind is our property and we can choose how we want it to function.

Pastor read from Romans 12:1-2,

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God”

The word instructs us to present our bodies because they belong to us, when people die, their bodies remain on the earth but that is not them, we are also instructed to renew, that is, change the contents of our minds, making it clear that we are not our minds. Pastor explained that most of our desires are processed with our mind, knowing this, we can decide what we want to be affected by.

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching” Hebrews 10:25

The word of God recognizes that there are such things as habits, and that it is possible for some believers to form the habit of not going to meetings, meaning they were previously consistent in attending but began to miss meetings until it became an habit. Pastor showed us from the word that Jesus had an habit and it was a good one,

“And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read” Luke 4:16

As Christians, we ought to replace the wrong habits with the right ones, those who find themselves always listening to the wrong songs can make deliberate efforts to start listening to the right ones, we can consciously programme ourselves with the right habits. Rather than visiting social media apps as the first thing when we wake up, such habit can be replaced by reading a book of the Bible first. In doing this deliberately for a week, it becomes an habit and no longer a struggle.

Pastor showed us another form of addiction we can have as believers as seen in 1 Corinthians 16:15-16

“I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,) That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth”

Paul spoke of the house of Stephanas, that they had addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints, just like there are people who are addicted to hospitality, it has become an habit for them to show care to everyone that comes their way, we can be addicted to ministry and as seen in the scripture, the responsibility lies on us to addict ourselves. Pastor reminded us that it is the desire of the spirit of God that we are addicted to the things of God, hence, when we have developed a godly habit and it seems we are on the verge of breaking the chain of positive addiction, the spirit of God nudges us as a form of reminding us to pray and to study the word.

Pastor further instructed us to form the habit of insisting on the word of God in our fight of faith. She admonished us to always be stubbornly convinced about what we have spoken and believed to the extent that when others try to get us to consider something else, we bluntly refuse. She highlighted Abraham as an example,

“Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.” Romans 4:18

Physically, he had nothing to hope for but with the word of God, he created his own hope. He had many things to consider, things that told him he was in an hopeless situation but he did not consider them, rather he was strong in faith. Pastor admonished us to form an habit of insisting on God’s word irrespective of the surrounding circumstances. Abraham was fully persuaded of God’s word and God marked him right teaching us that we can never be proven wrong when we insist on the word of God.
