“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
“When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;” John 19:8
Pilate was the governor of Judea. Jesus was brought to him by the Jews claiming he was an usurper, it was during his communication with Jesus and the Jews that it became clear that at one point Pilate became afraid and when he heard that Jesus claimed he was the son of God he became more afraid.
When he had asked Jesus about the allegation:
“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.” John 18:37
Jesus was unperturbed, he answered with confidence, he was articulate- he clearly stated that he was a king with servants in another world and what was happening was in line with his purpose! Pilate became afraid.
There’s so much to learn from Jesus, we have his life, name and his Spirit, and we didn’t receive the spirit of fear to fear!
“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear…” Romans 8:15
Exercise your boldness as a believer; be bold about your proclamation of God’s word, stick to making decisions based on God’s word fervently and don’t be bothered by those who might mock you or any staggering opposition. Anytime you stand steadfastly in God’s word, any opposition you might face would have one response- terror. They would be terrified just like Pilate was.
“And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.” Philippians 1:28
