Glory to God! It’s our year of Speed and Fulfilment – a year where we are carried by the Spirit of God, moving with divine speed unto the fulfilment of the word of God – his will for our lives and his church.

We had a glorious first service of the year themed “Fast Ahead”, Pastor started her teaching by reading the main scripture for the word of the year, Isaiah 63:9,

“In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.”

We saw that God identified with all what the children of Israel experienced, everything that affected them affected him too, similar to what Jesus told Saul on his way to Damascus, Saul had been persecuting the church but Jesus said he was the one being persecuted, in Matthew 25, Jesus identified with the least of his children who were sick, hungry or in prison, he experienced what they experienced, we are the body of Christ, he is the head and so whatever affects us affects him also. We went on to see that he did something about their affliction, he saved and redeemed them and he did not stop at that, he carried them throughout their journey; this is the ministry of God’s Spirit to us this year, he is aware of whatever we may be going through and he is with us to carry us, when we get to a difficult situation, the Spirit of God will carry us above that difficulty.

“And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.” Isaiah 46:4

Pastor gave a number of instructions for us to keep to this year, first, she instructed us to not compare ourselves with anyone else this year knowing the one who is carrying us, others may seem to be moving far ahead but the one carrying us knows all the short cuts, she charged us to be greatful for others and their accomplishments but to resist the temptation to compare ourselves, she reminded us that comparison is a form of unbelief and that we can only walk with God by faith.

Pastor went on to declare that this year, God is buying back all the time we lost or wasted in the previous year such that whatever projects we were unable to accomplish because of situations under or outside our control, this year of speed, we will complete them alongside the projects for this year, Pastor charged us to avoid every form of distraction knowing that if God is giving us the time wasted in the previous year, we must take it seriously and avoid any form of time wasters.

Finally, Pastor taught us to always consult with the Spirit of God in order to take advantage of his help;

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Romans 8:26

The Spirit of God is not limited, he sees what is ahead of us and is with us to help our limitations, even in prayer, he helps us, our responsibility is to ensure we pray always, in doing so, we position ourselves to take advantage of the help he provides.
