“And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
Philippians 2:8
At any given moment, Jesus expects that you choose him! He is worthy.
Apostle Peter told him:
“…Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee…” Matthew 19:27
He said they forsook all, meaning they had options! He didn’t start following Jesus because he couldn’t catch any fish, it was at the juncture of getting the catch of his life by a miracle that he followed Jesus, forsaking the catch:
“Simon Peter and the other fishermen—including his fishing partners, Jacob and John, the sons of Zebedee—were awestruck over the miracle catch of fish… After pulling their boats to the shore, they left everything behind and followed Jesus.” Luke 5:9,11
Following or serving the lord because things are tough is noble because it’s not like you’re expected to not serve him in the first place, but even more noble is that when you have buoyant alternatives you choose him; irrespective of the big catch, deal, opportunity— do you love him? If you do, serve. (John 21:6,8,15)
