“Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.”
Romans 12:16

The word of God shows us how there are individuals who purposely cause divisions in other to have disciples and followers of their own:
“Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.” Acts 20:30
And the Bible tells us to mark such people:
“Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.” Romans 16:17
Instead of being open to reason and letting their positions be vetted by the group like the Apostles did in Acts 15, they begin to cause offense and start seditions, God tells what you ought to do: avoid them.
Be fully aware of their methods:
“They court you eagerly, but for no good purpose; they want to exclude you, so that you would seek them eagerly.” Galatians 4:17, NET
They could begin to make much of you in other to entice you, do what the word says- stay away. All who gave in to Absalom utilizing such methods, unknowingly became part of an ungodly conspiracy: 2 Samuel 15:1-12.
