“Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.”
Romans 12:17
Don’t be vengeful, learn from Jesus:
After his resurrection, he could have given the first soldiers he met some punches for good measure as payback for what they (or their colleagues) did to him here:
“And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band… And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him…” Mark 15:16-20
Even more, considering the fact that they had already passed out! Matthew 28:4.
But just like he didn’t hurt them in their vulnerability before he was arrested, he didn’t hurt them after his resurrection— despite knowing they would eventually do this:
“…they gave large money unto the soldiers, Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept… So they took the money, and did as they were taught…” Matthew 28:12-15
Yet, he remained gracious. Imagine if the savior, our lord and example of billions of people around the world was vengeful?!
