“Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.”
Romans 12:17

Lying isn’t a “small” sin— infact, read these: Revelations 21:8, Proverbs 6:16-17.
The Bible tells us:
“A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.” Proverbs 13:5
An indicator of a man who’s walking in righteousness is that he would speak right and he wouldn’t tolerate that which is wrong, that which is a lie because the Bible says:
“A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.” Proverbs 17:4
He would also become a victim of lies, you would think because he’s so used to lying, he should be able to spot a liar, but that’s not the promise for him in God’s word.
It’s always better to say the truth, there’s always grace available for the one who says the truth: John 1:17
Even if you’re owing money, best to be honest and see the grace of God than to keep lying:
“But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.” Matthew 18:25-27
