“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Romans 12:21
Firstly, he says the choice is yours as to what you wish to be influenced by— he said don’t be overcome of evil- don’t let negative experiences influence you so much and you become just as negative.
Jesus said:
“Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.” Luke 17:3
So when people offend you, he didn’t ask you to offend them back but to forgive. He made clear why:
“…It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!” Luke 17:1
If the offense comes through you- even though it’s in retaliation- he makes clear the promise to you in God’s word: woe!
Don’t let the iniquities in the world make you cold, that’s an unrighteous sign of the last days: Matthew 24:12.
Instead choose to be tenderhearted even if the world celebrates the hard hearted:
“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:32
