“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”  1 John 5:3

He commands us to love, and the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts, we can love people just like God does, Romans 5:5. He says:
“So be imitators of God, as his dear children.”  Ephesians 5:1, ISV
He wants us to imitate God as dear children, to look at God in the word and do exactly what we see, just like Jesus did:
“Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.”  John 5:19
“I speak that which I have seen with my Father…”  John 8:38
And he tells us:
“He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”  1 John 2:6
After admonishing us to imitate God, the first example he expects us to emulate is given so clearly:
“And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”  Ephesians 5:2
The first thing he wants us to copy about God is love and he wants it to show in our lives, imitate his love towards others- you can love people just the way God loves them.
