How blessed we are to have received the glorious words that were shared by our highly esteemed Pastor Ebi during the Sunday service, still in our month of Prayer, Pastor continued to teach on the subject of prayer, first, she taught us that one thing every Christian is promised in the word of God is transformation; a metamorphosis from our current state to an even better state and this happens as we renew our minds with the word of God, she showed us how this can be applied to prayer, the reason a Christian may find it difficult to pray for long effectively is because of how he thinks, by renewing his mind with the word; believing and accepting that he can be given to prayer as Jesus instructed, he can move from being a weak Christian to being a strong Christian with an effective prayer life, we took a look at the life of Jesus and were inspired by how he prayed for a whole day into the next day and throughout the night on another occasion before taking major steps like choosing his apostles. Pastor went on to teach us important attitudes to have in praying, we learnt that we are not to trust in our own righteousness as the pharisee mentioned in Luke 18:9 did, rather our trust should be in the name of Jesus, the word of God teaches us that God leads us in the paths of righteousness and forgives our sins for his name sake and not because of anything we have done and so our confidence in prayer should be in his name and not in our own righteousness. Pastor went on to show us the implication of praying in the name of Jesus, we learnt from the story of Hamman and Mordecai as recorded in the book of Esther, Hamman wanting to destroy the Jews because of his displeasure at Mordecai got the King’s permission and sent out a decree that was sealed with the King’s ring and could therefore not be reversed, when the situation changed and Hamman had been hanged, the King had to also give Mordecai his ring to make another decree that could not be reversed, all such decrees that came with the King’s seal were treated as from the King, similarly, when we pray in the name of Jesus, that name serves as a seal and whatever we ask will be given to us, Pastor rounded off the message by pointing us to the attitude of faith to have as we pray, she illustrated it with an example of casting out a devil in the name of Jesus and commanding it to not return, by commanding it to never return, you have exercised faith that it left at your word and that is the kind of faith that works. Hallelujah!
