Jesus had told us those we should not exemplify: those who do everything just to be seen of men— they live their lives as a show off to others; to be seen of them and to be glorified of them:
“…thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray… that they may be seen of men…” Matthew 6:5
He told us to beware of people who emphasize on such character expressions:
“…”Be careful of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around wearing clothes that look important. And they love for people to show respect to them in the marketplaces.” Mark 12:38, ERV (instead he instructs us: Luke 14:7-11)
And through his life, he set an example for us:
In prayer: “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.” Mark 1:35
We wouldn’t have known he gave to the poor if it wasn’t mentioned in John 13:29, true to his instruction to give in secret and let God reward openly. The world might claim doing the opposite would be inspirational to others but no one knows what can inspire a man more than his creator and he said refuse to live a life where everything you do is for the purpose of the honor of others; hear him:
“I receive not honour from men.” John 5:41
