See how truly wonderful Jesus is! He told us this:
“But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” Matthew 5:39
And while some would like for this to mean something else and be a bit more symbolic in its presentation, when he was in a similar situation, he acted exactly the way he instructed us to act.
What’s more? In the heat of what could have been a fierce battle between good and evil in the mind of Peter after he cut off the ear of Malchus— one of those who came to arrest Jesus, Jesus healed the ear of Malchus! “And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.” Luke 22:50-51, see John 18:10.
He healed his ear and didn’t try to use it as a bargain to escape arrest, healed the ear of the comrade of those who would eventually do this to him:
“And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him. And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?” Luke 22:63-64
Keep his sayings! He wasn’t joking, exaggerating or just talking (see John 12:49-50); walk in love always!
