You can depend on Jesus and you can depend on his word, and this is one of the most gloriously exciting realities; at no point would we ever receive a rebuke or shame in the presence of the master for keeping to his word. The Bible had said:
“My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.” Proverbs 23:26
And also:
“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.” Proverbs 4:20
And when Mary did:
“And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.” Luke 10:39
Despite the protestations of her elder sister, Jesus didn’t rebuke her— she was keeping to his word.
On the contrary, she was praised as wise because she had found the one thing that was needful in life which no man could take away from her even if they tried to lobby Jesus to rebuke her!
“But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42
When you give him your heart, eyes and ears, nothing should be more important than him.
