“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” Proverbs 22:29
The word “diligent” is gotten from the Hebrew “mahir” which can be rendered “quick, prompt, skilled, ready”.
He says the man who is skilled and quick, prompt and ready in his business would stand before kings.
It’s not enough to be skilled, you have to be ready, quick when it comes to what you ought to do, not slothful- there is no commendation for the slow and lazy in God’s word:
“He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.” Proverbs 18:9
So the Bible says to tell members of God’s church:
“Put them in mind to be… ready to every good work,” Titus 3:1
Be ready, if you have a task- do it promptly, be skillful, meaning seek to improve in the excellence and quickness of your delivery and this isn’t limited to your workplace or business but in what God has sent you to do.
“As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.” Proverbs 10:26
