“Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.”
Proverbs 4:8

Jesus said hearing the word is the one thing needful in life (Luke 10:39,42), repeating the fact that wisdom should be your first consult; God’s wisdom is not man’s wisdom- it’s simple yet works!
“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11
He says the word of God would bring you to honor! Think about that- this is irrespective of your family background, or your environment, he says networking with the word would bring the promotion you seek.
Choosing to hear God’s word and submit yourself despite the protestations of your senses and others would be your promotion, exactly what he says here:
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:” 1 Peter 5:6
So don’t give up- there’s a due time, always choose God’s word. Exalt the word, embrace the word! Listen to David:
“Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.” (Psalms 119:23, see verse 161)
Princes really did sit and speak against him: 1 Samuel 22:7-8
But his response was to embrace the word- how difficult that must have been to his physical senses, but see what promotion he got! 2 Samuel 7:16, Luke 1:32.
