“And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”
1 Corinthians 13:13

God created the world and framed the ages and knowing that he loves you so, however he instructs you to live by is not only the right way but it’s for your own advancement. If he created you, then he knows the kind of life that is best for you and the way to live that life:
“Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.” Psalms 119:73
If you’ve never been on the earth before, then you should walk behind someone who knows all the corners, just like Joshua counseled Israel:
“…When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it. Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.” Joshua 3:3-4
What was unique about the ark? The word: Exodus 25:16.
And so hear David:
“I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me.” Psalms 119:19
Living your life according to the word is not a waste of time, doing otherwise certainly is.
