“And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”
1 Corinthians 13:13
He told us the reason why we would never be disappointed when we are hopeful is because of God’s love in our hearts:
“And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” Romans 5:5
That means, you shouldn’t hope in selfishness or to hurt others, the Bible describes such people:
“My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:” Proverbs 1:10-11
And they would never get what they want:
“From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” James 4:1, 3
It is the expectations of the righteous that would not be cut short!
“Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.” Proverbs 23:17-18
So walking in love is so important, no wonder he says love is the greatest because faith works by love and hope works because of love:
“…but faith which worketh by love.” Galatians 5:6
