“For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die… I appeal unto Caesar.” Acts 25:11
Before Paul was taken to Rome for trial, as per his request, he had faced several trials were his fate was at stake, but in everyone of them he made clear what he hoped for: Acts 23:6, 24:15, 26:7.
And even tried to get the king to become a Christian!
“Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian. And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.” Acts 26:28-29
Not as a minister or diplomat of Israel, the man was in prison! But that didn’t change his identity as an ambassador of Christ and as such, he would continue to do his duties irrespective: 2 Corinthians 5:20.
It is clear the way he thought- he might never have the opportunity to preach to those set of people again, what if they died after meeting him (irrespective of the conditions)? He didn’t leave them assuming they would meet other Christians one day; they were meeting him ‘today’ and that was enough for them to hear the gospel.
“…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Corinthians 6:2
