It was Paul’s second time in Rome as a prisoner and unlike the first where he was certain he would be released because the saints were praying for him:
“But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.” Philemon 1:22 (see verse 13)
And he still had so much to do for the church:
“Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;” Philippians 1:24-25
This time he knew it was time to go- there was nothing else for him to do, he was done:
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” 2 Timothy 4:6-7
Hallelujah! Such an inspiration and yet, consistent with his character, being brought into the colosseum to be fed by the lion, seeing the many gathered to watch his annihilation— guess what he did?
“Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.” 2 Timothy 4:17
He still preached; always an ambassador of Christ, irrespective of what time it was!
