SUED service this week left us greatly enlightened as Pastor shared from John 8:32;

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”

Pastor explained that knowledge of the truth has the ability to make free and that knowing there are different levels of truth based on authority, we ought to depend on the highest authority as the source of our knowledge. She then clarified the difference between being made free and being set free. She illustrated this with an example of two pregnant women, one of them arrested and put in jail, when she gives birth, the child born in prison can be set free but for the other woman who gave birth as a free woman, her child was made free, in other words, born as a free person and has no need to be set free. Pastor brought this into our reality as new creations, the old man was delivered from sin but when we got born again, we were born as new creations, we were born free. We have no need to be set free because we did nothing wrong, the old man with the history of wrongdoing died with Christ on the cross.

Pastor pointed out that the major reason it is hard for some Christians to accept this reality is because when we got born again, our physical body did not change and the body still has memories. However, the body is just a container, purchased by Jesus – for the word to dwell in and manifest, hence, the content has changed.

Pastor brought up the subject of the grace of God and the manner in which many Christians in seeking to acknowledge God’s grace emphasize their weaknesses. She brought it to our conciousness that God’s grace is not for the purpose of covering sins every now and then just as God was not pleased with the regular sacrifices for sins in the old testament and sent Jesus as a solution. Pastor charged us to quit the thinking that we may do something wrong, to realise that we have been truly saved from sin, enabled to live above sin and to quit songs and communications that focus on and personalise faults.

Pastor read further from Romans 8:2;

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”

The above verse clearly shows that we were made free from sin. We were not set free from sin, we were made free, that is, born free, with no relationship to or contract with sin and death. We cannot be reminded of our past because that was a different man. She further explained that the law of death became operational in the world through sin but since we were made free after the old man died with Christ, our physical body has completed its contract with death hence that law does not apply to us. Nothing that concerns us has to spoil or be affected from death, we were made free. Pastor explained to us that our consciousness of this truth plays a very important role in our experience, she mentioned that for instance, just by being conscious of the presence of an angel with us, the angel begins to function, such that if while walking down the road and something terrible is about to happen, by being conscious of the presence of angels and responding in boldness rather than fear, they are stirred to action. She charged us to always remain conscious that we were made free and to refuse to be subject to sin and death, to refuse to listen to thoughts and intellectual opinions that seek to make us subject to sin and death.

In rounding up, Pastor taught that the spirit of death knows he has no legal right to affect Christians, but being a rebellious spirit, he goes about seeking whom to devour, knowing that we were made free from sin and death, our response should to cast him out whenever he tries to show up.
