“But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.”
2 Peter 1:9

Do you know God expects you to abound in godliness- in piety; there must be some piety about your life- a recognition of that which is holy and sanctified unto God, for example- you. The holy Spirit indwells you, that means you are holy and sanctified unto God, and that knowledge should guide where you are found, the things you listen to, the association you keep and the words you speak:
“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:17-18
You should also recognize the people of God and the house of God, his word and his ordinances and walk accordingly. A consciousness of piety truly would cause you to be aware of God indwelling you and that he purged you from the old sins and gave you the victory.
