“And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.”
John 1:16
In talking about the word of God being made flesh, he tells us the word didn’t come empty:
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us… full of grace and truth.” John 1:14
He was full of grace- filled with the desire to be unreservedly kind to the most undeserving, and he was full of truth, he only had God’s word to give and God’s purposes to pursue and establish:
“…thy word is truth.” John 17:17
“Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me…” John 17:7-8, see also John 3:34, 6:38
Now he tells us, we have received of the same fullness, we have received the grace of God to be children of the living God without any efforts of our own, just by believing:
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12-13
