“And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.”
1 Samuel 30:8
Jesus assured us: “…It is impossible but that offences will come…” Luke 17:1
And emphasized in the word is the various trials that would come our way: James 1:2, 1 Peter 1:6-7
At times from people we might consider our equals, other times from those that might seem more highly placed than us, like David— Saul, the king of Israel had a bounty on his head and was willing to travel with soldiers wherever he heard David was at, with every plan to kill him, hear what David said:
“…there is but a step between me and death.” 1 Samuel 20:3
In the midst of such opposition, any response he meted would have been greatly understood, but listen to David’s commitment to the word:
“Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.” Psalms 119:23
Learn from Jesus, he had said:
“For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them…” Luke 9:56
So even when he was in a position in which harming his detractors would have been justified, he was committed to expressing the character of God: Luke 4:28-30, John 8:59
Put God first- think about him, what he would have you do and how he would have you respond first!
