“Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.”
Romans 4:4

God told the children of Israel to abstain from work every seventh year, typifying the concept of grace, that barring any effort of their own, he could provide for them, and why not? Throughout their sojourn in the wilderness he provided for them, and to show the seriousness of this instruction, when they forsook it, he counted the number of “seventh” years they had missed and told them they’d be carried captive for that exact number of years, true to what he promised in Leviticus 26:34-35:
“To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.” 2 Chronicles 36:21
How important it was to him that once in seven years, they solely relied on him, and how true this is concerning our salvation and right standing with him, the Bible tells us:
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we WERE yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
And also:
“He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” Romans 8:32
Rest in his grace and his love!
