“Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.”
Romans 4:4
God also did tell the children of Israel to rest in the Sabbath days, so once in seven days and once in seven years, they were to cease from their labors and rest, Ofcourse they didn’t adhere to what he said and that compounded on the many reasons for their being taken captive to Babylon as Nehemiah shared here: Nehemiah 13:17-18.
But then the Bible tells us, that the Sabbath typified something better, because they never really entered that rest in the promised land: Hebrews 4:8-10
Everyone who has believed has entered into this rest of God and has ceased from his own works (Hebrews 4:3) and he’s talking about us— now that you are in Christ, the only labour he asks of you is to remain in his rest:
“Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” Hebrews 4:11
Believe that he can take care of you and he won’t mismanage your life.
Think about that! Shouldn’t that be simple and such a gift? But how difficult it can be for people who are used to figuring things out themselves! Rest in his grace and his love.
