“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
2Peter 3:18
God is interested in your growth- he wants you to grow in grace and in knowledge.
“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Romans 8:29
The word “conformed” is from the Greek “summorphos” which means “jointly formed”, this is far different from “conformed” in Romans 12:2 which means “fashion alike”.
We were predestined, not to be fashioned like the image of the first born, that would mean that even now, we still have to work constantly to become like him, and that was not God’s plan.
When we got born again, we became jointly formed to the image of the first born, a man can make a sculpture look like a human being or make extra efforts to make his pet puppy dress, smell and look like a human being, but alas, they would still not be human beings despite their being fashioned like one. If he really wanted a human being, he has to go get married and form one, and if he wants another one, he has to form that one in the same way, he formed the first!
God’s plan was not to make us seem like his first born even though we are still mere mortals, his plan was to make us is second born, third born… totally divine!
“Beloved, now are we the sons of God… but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” 1John 3:2
