“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”  
Colossians 3:1

He tells you because of your present spiritual location, you should not desire things that are beneath or unimportant to you!
He says seek- desire- those things which are above, and you would find and use them!
“…seek, and ye shall find…”  Matthew 7:7
He gives you a focus in life, more and more as you study the word of God, you realize that God is very direct in expressing what he thinks you ought to do with your life. He clearly defines what your purpose is, thoughts, words, actions and results should be.
He gives you daily activities and the corresponding results of those activities:
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”  Joshua 1:8
Now he tells you what you should be single eyed about on the earth- things above; God thinks those things are more important than whatever you might be seeking or hustling for here:
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”  Matthew 6:33
The word of God came from heaven, the word of God is from above- stay in close fellowship with the one who is your true friend.
