“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”

1 John‬ ‭3‬:‭2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

There are few people who take their sonship and new life in Christ quite casually, probably because they do not understand the implications of that reality. Some, would like the Jews, casually claim God to be their father- simply because it seems like a nice thing to say:

“…Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.” John‬ ‭8‬:‭41‬ ‭

But we ought to recognize that we are sons of God, our Father is in heaven and in us, and be serious about this realization, just like Jesus was serious about it and it cost him his life:

“But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.” John‬ ‭5‬:‭17‬-‭18‬ ‭

Think about it, they plotted to kill him because he said God was his Father, meanwhile they also later proclaimed God was their father in John 8;41, the difference was that when Jesus declared his, he meant it. Do not take your sonship casually- bask in this glorious reality.
