“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭3‬:‭2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Right now, we are the sons of God. The promise of sonship isn’t something that is to be realized in heaven or on the last day; he tells us that even now, we are sons of God- actually divine.

We might not look it or appear that way, by observing us, we can be mistaken to be ordinary humans, but it is the same way Jesus was mistaken to be ordinary, born of a woman:

“And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?” John‬ ‭6‬:‭42‬ 

So he tells us not to get distracted or lose sight of who we really are; being a son of God, proclaiming God as our father is a big deal, the meaning of that statement is so profound and to think it is our reality. Notice the Jews:

“Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, MAKING HIMSELF EQUAL with God.” John‬ ‭5‬:‭18‬ ‭

This is our reality today; you are a son of God- right now!
