“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:”
Ephesians 5:8
Being a child of light confers on you leadership, God expects you to lead through his word. The one who is light would have people following, even naturally, on a path, the man who holds the lanterns would lead the way, but you don’t just hold light, he calls you a child of light, you are light and he expects you to lead:
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12
There is more:
“Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.” 1 Thessalonians 5:5-6
He expects you to watch and be sober, not careless or distracted by this world, but realize that there are standards with which he expects you to live by, till he comes.
“But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.” 1 Thessalonians 5:8
When he says be sober, he doesn’t mean walk around looking melancholic, he tells you what to do, live your life consciously always with faith and love, decide to walk and abound in love:
“And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more⦠that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;” Philippians 1:9-10
