“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:”
Ephesians 5:8

He expects you to be sober and watchful, doing what he told you to do and not get carried away with the deceitfulness of sin or the spirit of the world:
“Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.” 1 Thessalonians 5:6-8
Read this carefully:
“And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.” Luke 12:42-46
Realize that there is a difference between you and unbelievers, that means your lifestyle and works would be vastly different from that of the world, do not get deceived or carried away by the spirit of the world. This is why he warns so steadfastly:
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.” Ephesians 5:11-12
