“Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.”
2 Timothy 1:13
God gives you his word primarily to profit you; irrespective of how it comes to you:
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
His word would not profit you if you don’t mix it with faith: [Hebrews 4:2]
But faith works by love; selfishness could stifle your walk of faith and experiencing God’s word in his fullness:
“…faith which worketh by love.” Galatians 5:6
“You ask, and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures.” James 4:3, NHEB
Don’t hold on to God’s word in other to prove a point to any man, Jesus said:
“I receive not honour from men.” John 5:41
Hold on to God’s word because he is your life and your guide on the path of righteousness.
