God is passionate about how our lives should end, he is more passionate about our future and our destiny than we could ever be, this was one of the powerful lessons we received at the last Sunday service, we were reminded of God’s word in Jeremiah 29:11,
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
We saw that God’s thoughts about us are thoughts that concern our future, he’s not thinking about our past or about any mistakes we have made, they are inconsequential.
“Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;” 1 Corinthians 3:21
This verse further corroborates this truth, we see that the present and the things to come are ours, today belongs to us and the future is ours, however, one thing that is clearly not ours is the past, it’s gone, Pastor charged us to not lay claim to a past that God did not give to us.
We saw this truth manifested in Paul’s experience, when God met him, he only referred to his present and his future, his past had no bearing on his destiny, we also saw this in the life of David, despite taking another man’s wife and killing him to cover his misdeeds, God’s love was big enough and his grace lavish enough to cover for his past and to right his wrongs.
“And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” Romans 10:8-11
Pastor showed us that it is possible for a person to be affected in the body because of something wrong he has done, a case study was the man at the pool of Bethesda whom Jesus warned to go and sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon him, however, for the Christian, the Holy Spirit was sent as an helper, to give life to our bodies and he will quicken our mortal bodies because of righteousness.
Pastor concluding by exhorting us to not wallow in the past, God doesn’t think about our past and neither should we, today is ours and tomorrow belongs to us, that is where our focus should be and our testimony is that it only gets better with us.
