Halleluyah!
It’s our Month of Soul Winning and the excitement in the auditorium was palpable as Pastor made this declaration during the Communion Service on Sunday. Pastor took a moment to remind us that every Christian should be involved in winning souls because the only thing we will take along to heaven are the souls we won while on the earth.
Pastor began to teach from John 3:16;
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Jesus came as a saviour, to save men from death; from perishing on this earth and from perishing eternally, whosoever believes in him should not perish, that is, should not be affected by death.
Pastor showed us from 2 Peter 2:20 that we have escaped the pollutions of this world, which is what causes men to perish;
“For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.”
Those that know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour have escaped the pollutions of the world, they have been saved, the things that affect others should not affect them. Jesus made us understand that though we are in the world, we are not of the world, we received a different kind of life when we got born again.
Pastor illustrated this with the use of water resistant and non-water resistant watches, both might fall into water but only one of them comes out still functioning perfectly, when we get born again, we are like that watch, inspite of the pollutions in the world, we cannot be touched.
Pastor showed us other scriptures to establish the message;
“Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father.” Galatians 1:4
“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2 Peter 1:4
Death came into the world by man’s sin and the result is that everybody identified with sin will be affected by death in one way or the other, however, Jesus came and gave himself for our sins, delivering us from this present evil world, where others are being affected by death because of sin, death has no hold on us.
Pastor emphasized the need to accept what Jesus has done for us, he went to hell on our behalf, he was pierced for our sakes, he perished so that we would not perish but we must accept that he did so for us to walk in the reality of this salvation he has provided for us.
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24
God wants us to know he has saved us, he wants us to be aware and to take charge whenever there is a contrary situation, but it does not end there, he also wants to be our Lord; our Master.
Pastor showed us in Psalm 23:1-5 our new realities and the eternal benefits associated with having Jesus as our Lord, we saw that when Jesus becomes our Lord, he provides all with all that we want, keeps us in peace, leads us to do the right things, gives us the authority to take charge at all times and takes away every reason to fear because of his constant presence with us.
He also becomes the master of our life and this means that we can’t live our lives anyhow any longer, there is someone in charge of our lives now, we can’t make decisions anyhow or talk anyhow, we have a Lord, he gives us directions and instructions that would profit us in life but we must recognise his lordship in our lives.
Jesus died for us so that we would live for him, we no longer belong to ourselves and the first instruction he gave to us after his resurrection was that we should go and preach, this shows us his priority, he wants others to become aware of the salvation he made available and our responsibility is to offer them the opportunity to believe.
