“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only be-gotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Christmas is a term gotten from “Christ- The anointed one” and “mas- Celebration”. A celebration of the anointed one- more popularly, a celebration of his birth!
The event of his birth, as awesome as it was that God himself came to dwell in the earth he created, would mean almost nothing if focus is lost on the purpose of his coming!
In fact, while announcing his birth, the angels majored on what his coming meant for the earth:
“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.” Luke 2:10
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” Luke 2:14
They said his birth would be a cause of great joy for all people, his coming was the establishment of peace and good will towards men, in other words, his coming meant you will always have peace and joy, and it meant God’s good will would be directed towards you- this is why we celebrate!
He came with a different kind of life and the experience of life; that life, when received would establish the Christian in a permanent state of peace and joy, be-cause irrespective of the troubles, there is a word for you:
“…whosoever believeth in him should not perish…” John 3:16
