“Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”
John 14:23

If you love Jesus, then keep his words, firstly, whatever he tells you is the reality; the word of God is the reality:
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17
Knowing the reality and deciding to ignore or forget what you have heard from him is an expression of your lack of wisdom at worse or your self deception at best:
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” James 1:22-25
When he says keeping his word is the proof that you love him, he isn’t asking you to begin to believe some outlandish remarks that would never be proven true- his word is the truth, every other thing antithetical or subtly different from his word is a lie and would be proven to be so eventually.
‘For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” 1 John 5:3
Because you want to walk in the truth, you want to walk in righteousness and you are proving your love for the Lord, you would fight and remain in God’s word irrespective.
