“Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”
John 14:23
Jesus said when you keep his word, the father will love you and himself and the father will make their abode with you; it will be constantly evident that God is with you.
When you hear the word of God, your response is so important, you must prepare your heart and your mind to hear and understand his word, to meditate on his word and to remain in his word- expecting his word to be tried and challenged, knowing that the word you hear will propel you in victory irrespective of the trials and challenges.
Sadly, there are those who have let the trials and challenges they heard because of the word cause them to abandon the word, they did not keep the word, they sought their own means to win the challenges, they were unaware that the word of God that they abandoned was their guide unto victory and triumph:
“But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.” Matthew 13:20-21
The word ‘keep’ can also be rendered ‘guard’, ‘attend carefully’, ‘reserve’; if he tells you to guard his word, obviously he is telling you that situation would arise that could cause you to question his word- but no matter what keep his word:
“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.” Proverbs 4:20-21
