“And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.” Luke 10:32
Before the Levite, a Priest had passed by that way and didn’t help the man. This is remarkable because the priests were the teachers and to an extent, the enforcers of the law:
“And of Levi he said… They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Israel thy law…” Deuteronomy 33:8-10
God had said:
“…do justice to the afflicted and needy.” Psalms 82:3
Yet when the opportunity presented itself, they bailed. Every priest was a Levite; they were a people chosen by God for himself to minister to him and Israel and so you would expect they would behave differently especially since the man could still be saved, but they didn’t.
Don’t think so far, even today, there are people who are callous with human lives, they only think of themselves because “they don’t want trouble”, Jesus frowns at such behavior, he made clear why he came:
“For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them…” Luke 9:56
Be a good neighbour and don’t be a hypocrite:
“…they say, and do not.” Matthew 23:3
