“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”
Acts 10:38
Notice, in summarizing his walk on the earth, Peter, who walked closely with him spoke the words in the main verse- Jesus was anointed by God and he went about doing good- he didn’t live for himself or his agenda:
“For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.” John 6:38
He lived for the one who sent him:
“As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father…” John 6:57
And did all and only what he was asked to do:
“I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.” John 17:4
What an example he set for us on how to live purposefully and productively! We must always be conscious that we have been sent and the one who sent us gave us a task to do and we must be busy about doing what he asked us to, not what people or society demand of us:
“I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” John 9:4
…MUST WORK the works of HIM, not mine…
Live for someone greater, not for yourself. The call to follow Jesus was a call to death that produces life: John 12:25, Luke 14:26-27.
