Sunday’s message began with Pastor sharing from 1 Corinthians 3:17,
“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
She mentioned that one of the hallmarks of the Spirit is liberty, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Pastor showed us that this was consistent with Jesus’ character as seen in Mark 9:38-39, his disciples reported how they had stopped a man casting out devils in his name, in his response, Jesus showed that he was confident in himself, he was never intimated and he never felt someone else would take his place. Pastor also mentioned that the Spirit is the creator and the enforcer of liberty.
Pastor went on to remind us of what we learnt in previous services about being made free. She showed us that the word of God goes beyond making us understand that we were made free to understanding that we were made one with the one who makes free and therefore have received the ability to make others free.
“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord”. 2 Corinthians 3:18
The Spirit of God is the glory of God, and by beholding the glory of God in the word of God, we are transformed into that same spirit, we become liberators, made free and enabled to make others free.
Pastor buttressed this by showing us that Jesus is excited to be identified with the church, she read from Ephesians 5:28-30,
“So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.”
Pastor explained from here how important it is for men to love their wives as themselves and to treat them right. Pastor mentioned that in a marriage, the woman ought to be subject to her husband and God has made a way for her to be treated rightly, he positioned her as favour to the man as seen in Proverbs 18:22 “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD”, the man who does not treat his wife right has rejected favour while the man who treats his wife rightly is guaranteed favour.
Pastor related this to the church of God, the Lord sees the church as his body and identifies fully with the church, little wonder he said to Saul, “why are you persecuting me” – personalizing the church as himself. The verse goes further to tell us that we are members of his body, his flesh and his bones showing us how much he is unified with us and that he is not ashamed to be identified with us.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised” Luke 4:18
Jesus was concious that he came as a liberator, having been made one with him, we have also become liberators, our lives should be focused on liberating others from the claws of Satan and the destruction on their path, when we get busy with this, we would not having any room to be distracted by sin. Pastor taught us that the way to liberate men is by teaching them the word, the word is the liberating agent, it has the ability to deliver people from bondage, Jesus demonstrated this over and over in his walk on the earth, with the word, he delivered people from sickness and from death. He taught the word consistently believing that when the people hear the word; it would cause them to become productive bringing forth fruit in multiple folds just as he said in the parable of the sower.
Pastor rounded up by reading from 2 Timothy 2:25-26,
“In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will”
There are those who oppose themselves, when they begin to move forward, they speak the wrong words and then move backwards thereby not making any progress in life, the bible says we should instruct them, that is teach them; so that they would acknowledge the truth and by doing so, they are made free from the snare of the devil. The truth is what can make free, God made us free, so we can make others free, and with the word, this becomes possible, our response should be to give attention to learning the word. It’s our mission, it’s our purpose, we pay no attention to frivolities, instead, we are dedicated to liberating men.
