“◄Imitate/Behave like► God, because he loves you who are his children.”
Ephesians 5:1, T4T

In the main verse he tells you to imitate/ behave like God, you are his child after all. Jesus is the son of God, he knew it while he walked on earth and he knew what was expected of him based on that relationship:
“Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.” John 5:19
The same is expected of you, he wants you to see what he does and do also.
The next verse shows you were to begin:
“And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.” Ephesians 5:2
Your love walk is the first proof that you are behaving like him, in fact, it is the proof that you now dwell in life and have become alien to death and its effect:
“We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren…” 1 John 3:14
The good news is walking in love isn’t a mystery, the word of God clearly shows us what love is, and how we can abound in love towards others. In Ephesians 5:2, he tells you how intense and far reaching your love for others should be: it should be sacrificial, just like Jesus’ love for you was and it is easy for you because God has poured his love into your heart, all you have to do now is express it more and more:
“…God’s love has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Romans 5:5, ISV
You are born again, the offspring of the living God, show it lavishly; love lavishly.
