“He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”
John 14:21
Firstly, Jesus said you should have his commandments; and he isn’t restricting this to the Ten Commandments because he had said:
“For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.” John 12:49
So every word he spoke was a commandment from God, he never gave his opinions or suggestions, he gave God’s commandments:
“For I have not spoken of myself…” John 12:49
And so it matters that you keep his words; keep the word- that is wisdom and humility:
“If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing…” 1 Timothy 6:3-4
Know what he has said, don’t assume- find out what the word actually says.
