“For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  
2 Peter 1:8

You have a part to play to ensure your life is full of spiritual activity and productivity! A life with no regrets but filled with results!
He says there are ‘things’ that ought to be in you in abounding measure, when they are in you, they would make you!
These things have the ability to make you very productive! He goes ahead and lists those things:
“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.” 2 Peter 1:5-7
It starts with faith, every child of God has faith, when the gospel was preached to you, it came with faith; it is that faith that enabled you believe a God you couldn’t see and events that weren’t recorded with pictures or video clips.
“…God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”  Romans 12:3
And after you got born again, the more you listen to the word of God, the more you grow your faith, that faith would make you participate actively and produce results as a child of God, that is wonderful, then he says add to that- faith is so important, but add virtue- moral excellence- to it. Be full of faith, also be excellent in your dealings, and as a Christian excellence is free of charge! It is your call to excellent; be faithful and fulfill that call:
“…through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:”  2 Peter 1:3
